How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a time-tested, highly effective approach to wellness that involves inserting needles into specific points on the body to enhance one's natural ability to heal. Stimulation of certain acupoints helps restore balance to the entire system, thereby resolving a wide array of ailments. In western terms, it affects increased blood circulation, endorphin release, increased neuronal activity, and decreased inflammation.
What can acupuncture treat?
According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture is effective for many conditions, including low back pain, stroke, high blood pressure and depression, among many other conditions. Conditions for which there are many high quality studies include musculoskeletal pain, addictions, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, migraines and headaches, and fertility support, among others.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Your practitioner uses very small sterile needles. It is normal to feel them, but they do not need to be painful. Indeed, most patients find their treatments very relaxing.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies greatly from patient to patient and each treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs. Acute care may include 1-2 treatments a week for multiple treatments. Others come in for a tune up every couple of months.
What do I need for my first treatment?
Simply bring yourself, your completed paperwork and your insurance card & ID if we are billing insurance. If you would rather fill out the paperwork in the office, please arrive at least 10 minutes early to your appointment. You will get more benefit if you hydrate well on the day of your treatment.
